Spacex conducted a STARSHIP ship to fit the Super Heavy Rocket — the company’s engineers for the first time performed a trial assembly of both parts of a single running system on a start-up.

The trial dasp was carried out the day after a rollout on the starting position of the test landfill in the Boca-Chica of the first flight prototype of the Super Heavy rocket under the Booster 4 index. It is equipped with 29 Raptor liquid engines and is able to raise 100 tons of cargo to a low near-earth orbit. Spacex has no experience in using such multi-engines. If the BOOOSTER 4 tests are successful, it will be a significant engineering breakthrough, as to ensure the coordinated work of such a number of engines is considered an extremely difficult task.

STARSHIP ship under the SN20 index, which is preparing for a joint test with Booster 4, has undergone significant changes — 6 Raptor engines are installed on it, which will have to achieve orbits with a height of 250 km, maneuvering, descent and controlled drive near Hawaii. Mask at the same time strongly risks — the company’s engineers have no experience of landing StarShip with such a number of engines. All tests were carried out on prototypes with 3 engines. In this case, only the last prototype was able to align and gently land — the previous 4 tests ended with crash, as engineers could not choose the correct pulse for braking. Success came when the company abandoned the idea of ​​planting the ship on one engine and turned two.

After assembling and disassembling the STARSHIP system, both parts are the ship and carrier — we went to refine the docking nodes. Probably there will be at least one fitting. In addition, both parts will begin to undergo pre-flight tests, the key of which is to check the tightness and test of engines.

The exact date of the test launch is not yet assigned. It can take place at any time until the end of the year, but most likely it will happen in September if the system testing does not encounter problems or the destruction of one of the parts during tests. The first flight of StarShip on the moon is scheduled for 2024, and on Mars it should fly in 2026.
