Consulting company ABI Research made up a forecast for the timing of standardization and commercialization of 6G. Analysts concluded that the new generation wireless networks will be standardized in 2026, and the first private consumers will receive access to 6G at the beginning of 2028. In ABI, it was noted that 6G is a fundamentally new technology, and not the «best version of 5G». The main advantages of the coming transition to a new communication standard — data security, user privacy, low power consumption and, of course, multiple increase in speed.
According to the indicators approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the maximum speed of 5G-networks is 20 Gbps, and the average speed for consumers does not exceed 120 Mbps. This is enough for topical tasks, but with the advent of more advanced technologies, the shortage of speed will slow down the progress in many areas. For this reason, the ABI specialists believe that with 6G and the distribution of the terahertz frequency band, the possibility of wireless connectivity will change drastically. The maximum speed of 6G will reach 1 Tbit / s, and private consumers will connect to the network at 1 Gbit / s.

«The possibilities of self-organization and self-healing networks to support autonomous driving, drone and ubiquitous networking will also play an important role in reducing the time and costs of network deployment and ensuring a larger coating for mobile communication,» the Senior ABI analyst at 5G and Jiangziah Hou infrastructure said. He also added that in the next decade, 6g will be a key aspect in the implementation of the ubiquitous connection — regardless of the communication environment, the coverage area will be much broader than that of past mobile generations.
ABI also paid attention to the potential leaders who have already begun to develop 6G technologies. Among the analytics countries allocated Finland, China, South Korea and the United States, and also noted that the European Union had already launched several research programs dedicated to 6G.
ABI Research is not the only company that predicts the appearance of 6G networks by 2028. In January of this year, Counterpoint analysts have published a report with a similar statement and even called several companies that will be the first in the deployment process. According to Counterpoint, the most promising vendors in the 6G area is Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia, Huawei, ZTE, Qualcomm, LG, Apple, Oppo, China Mobile and Sk Telecom.
