The team of scientists from Germany demonstrated a new lithium-metal battery with an energy density of 560 W * h / kg, which is 2 times the density of existing commercial lithium-ion batteries. At the same time, the prototype of the new battery is very slowly degrading — lost only 12% of the capacity after 1000 cycles of charging-discharge.

According to analysts, overcoming the figure of 500 W * h / kg should become an important stage in the development of electrical transport. The energy density of modern lithium-ion batteries is 250-300 W * h / kg.
As for the service life, the new battery also showed itself from the best side — retained 88% of the initial capacity of 214 mA * b / g in the cathode after 1000 cycles. And on the current exit, the battery efficiency was 99.94%, like existing commercial lithium-ion batteries.
