Malaria vaccine showed 100% long-term protection in humans

Three months after vaccination and drug intake, participants were injected with a pathogen through blood.

With low dosages, protection was weak. So, only two of nine volunteers (taken pyrimetamine) were protected from malaria. The highest dosage has been protected from 77.8% to 87.5%, depending on the pathogen strain.

The best result was the combination of PFSPZ with chlorochin. All six participants showed 100% protection against malaria for at least three months after vaccination.

In their opinion, the vaccine can be a promising means for both residents of endemic districts and for tourists. Every year more than 220 million people are sick and about 400 thousand die from infection.
